Marko Boychuk, Edmonton educator and Ukrainian community leader, mentors youth, directs CYM and Verkhovyna Ensemble, and champions cultural engagement locally and internationally.

Marko Boychuk is an active and respected leader within the Ukrainian Canadian community, based in Edmonton, Alberta. He holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and works as a teacher for the Edmonton Catholic School District.Deeply involved in Ukrainian cultural life since childhood, he has held numerous leadership roles. From 2021 to 2025, he served as President of the Verkhovyna Ukrainian Song & Dance Ensemble, where he successfully navigated the organization through the post-Covid return to in-person activities, growing enrollment and managing internal conflicts with fairness and integrity. He is also the current Treasurer of the Verkhovyna Ensemble and the Secretary of the Ukrainian Youth Association (CYM) Edmonton executive board. Previously, he acted as CYM Edmonton's Membership Director and Summer Camp Chair, advocating for free and subsidized fees for Ukrainian newcomer children displaced by the full scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.A key contributor to the community's global and local profile, Marko helped organize an international tour for the Dunai Ukrainian Dancers to Montenegro, Croatia, and Bosnia in 2024, where the group had the opportunity to perform for the local Ukrainian communities. In 2025, the Verkhovyna Choir travelled to Germany, Belgium, and Czechia, which Marko played an integral part in planning. He is also a valued mentor and positive role model for youth, consistently volunteering at community events and fostering a strong cultural identity. Through his extensive community service, Marko demonstrates a deep commitment to giving back, a passion he intends to carry forward throughout his life.

The UCC launched the Ukrainian Canadian Youth Leadership Award of Excellence for outstanding leadership in 1998 to give recognition to young adult Ukrainian Canadians that have made significant contributions to the broader Ukrainian community and for the betterment of Canada.
