Laryssa Luszczki, Ottawa-based educator and CYM leader, empowers Ukrainian youth across Canada, fostering cultural pride, leadership, and community through camps, schools, and national programs.
Laryssa Luszczki currently resides in Ottawa but is originally from Montreal, where she graduated from McGill with a Bachelors in International Development and a Minor in History. She is an active community leader dedicated to empowering Ukrainian youth and preserving Ukrainian cultural identity in Canada. As a committed member of the Ukrainian Youth Association of Canada (CYM), a camp counsellor, a volunteer, and a Ukrainian school teacher, she has devoted her time and energy to fostering leadership, teamwork, and cultural prideamong Ukrainians in Canada.Since 2016, Laryssa has worked at the Metropolitan Andrej Sheptytsky Ukrainian school in Montreal, teaching both grade school classes and non-native speaking students. Her work in education reflects her passion for sharing language, traditions, and history with the nextgeneration. Through her involvement with CYM, Laryssa has played a key role in organizing and leading youth programs, local and national annual events, and community initiatives that have connected generations of Ukrainian Canadians across Canada. Her dedication extends to Ukrainian leadership and kids' summer camps held at Veselka in Ontario and Verhovyna in Quebec, where she has served as both an organizer, head counsellor, and mentor. Passionate about working with Ukrainian youth, Laryssa has and will continue to serve on the Board of Directors for UYA Canada as Head Counsellor. In this position, she engages with counsellors across Canada to advance programs for youth aged 6-12 and leaders aged 15-18. In these roles, she creates opportunities for Ukrainian youth to develop confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of responsibility—skills that will serve them well in their personal and professional lives.Laryssa’s commitment to youth leadership, cultural education, and community service continues to make a lasting impact within the Ukrainian Canadian community.
The UCC launched the Ukrainian Canadian Youth Leadership Award of Excellence for outstanding leadership in 1998 to give recognition to young adult Ukrainian Canadians that have made significant contributions to the broader Ukrainian community and for the betterment of Canada.
