Speaker's bio

Growing up in Regina’s Ukrainian National Federation, Anya Shyian always felt at home on stage—reciting poetry, dancing, and learning. She envisioned a space for Ukrainian teens to connect, share creativity, celebrate culture, and unite displaced youth with local Ukrainian-Canadians. Starting with small gatherings at the UNF hall, her efforts led to the revival of the Ukrainian National Youth Federation – Regina Branch in March 2023, where she served as president for two years. UNYF has become a hub for teens of diverse Ukrainian backgrounds to celebrate heritage through art and community events. The cultural events created by UNYF have brought together and united the Ukrainian community of Regina, and Anya feels deeply connected and encouraged to give back through her community involvement. Beyond UNYF, Anya teaches at Sadochok Preschool and UNF Regina’s Ridna Shkola, was UCC Regina Mosaic Kyiv Pavilion Youth Ambassador, and volunteers with the Regina Multicultural Council. In 2024, she received the UCC-SPC Community Recognition Award for Youth Leadership.
