Oksana A. Wynnyckyj-Yusypovych, Ph.D., is an educator, researcher, and policy advisor specializing in curriculum, multilingual education, and Ukrainian studies.

Oksana A. Wynnyckyj-Yusypovych has a Ph.D. in Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto in the fields of curriculum, second language teaching and multicultural education. She has worked in Canadian schools in Toronto and Mississauga as a teacher, consultant and program coordinator. Additionally, she has lectured on a wide variety of educational topics in Canada, the United States, Australia and throughout Europe. Currently, Oksana is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Education, Ivan Franko Lviv National University, Ukraine.

During her tenure as Chair of the International Educational Coordinating Council of the Ukrainian World Congress (2008-2018), Oksana collected and analyzed the history of the IECC-UWC, the types of Ukrainian language schools in the world and Ukrainian language children’s literature published in the diaspora (1950-1990). Additionally, she has been an active instructor and organizer of the IECC-UWC “Summer Institute” project since its insemination in 1992.

A Canadian citizen, Oksana first travelled to Ukraine in 1990 as a Junior Scholar through the Canada – USSR Academic Exchange Program. Currently, a permanent resident in Ukraine, Oksana is Advisor on Educational Policy to the Mayor of the City of Lviv, Ukraine and has been instrumental in ensuring the introduction and development of a full-day school model. Previously (2016-2019), she was Advisor to Liliya Hrynevych, Minister of Education, Ukraine and participated in the development and implementation of the “New Ukrainian School”.

Oksana has published academic research papers in child language development, professional curriculum guidelines and materials for the teaching of Ukrainian-as-a-Second-Language in Canada and elementary classrooms in Ukraine, as well as community publications on Canada-Ukraine relations. In the past, Oksana has been the editor of a children’s magazine, has worked as a translator and interpreter, a radio broadcaster, a newspaper columnist and a community activist for minority children.

Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Oksana, has lived in Shawinigan (Quebec), Toronto, Mississauga and Kitchener (Ontario) and Edmonton (Alberta). She has traveled extensively in Canada, spending time in Moncton, Montreal, Quebec City, Southern Ontario, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg and Vancouver.

Oksana maintains two websites – one dedicated to the dissemination of Ukrainian language teaching-learning materials (www.lycem-do-dytyny.com) and the other to classical and opera music (www.yusypovych.com).

A fluent English and Ukrainian bilingual, Oksana has functional knowledge of French and German.
