Speaker's bio
Maryna Horobets was born in Melitopol — a city currently under Russian occupation — which shaped her deep understanding of the importance of Ukrainian education and cultural identity abroad. She holds a Master’s degree in Theatrical and Spectacular Events.
From 2018 to 2023, she lived in Peru, where she learned Spanish and led efforts to collect humanitarian aid for Ukraine at the start of the full-scale invasion. She worked closely with the Ukrainian Embassy in Peru, organizing cultural and culinary fairs, community events, and political rallies.
In 2023, Maryna moved to Halifax, Canada, where she became a board member of UCC Nova Scotia, a lead actress in the Ukrainian Theatre in Halifax, and co-organizer of numerous cultural and political events. She hosted the Ukrainian Festival in both 2023 and 2024.
In 2025, she was elected President of UCC Nova Scotia and, together with the board of UCC NS, opened the Ukrainian school “Mriya,” which now welcomes 90 students and keeps growing, improving, and developing.
