Olesia Luciw-Andryjowycz, President of the League of Ukrainian Canadian Women and past UCC leader, is a community builder recognized for advancing Ukrainian heritage, civil society, and advocacy for Ukraine.

Biography

Olesia Luciw-Andryjowycz has been a dedicated leader in the Ukrainian Canadian community committed to cultural preservation, community empowerment, and support for Ukraine. Growing up in the Ukrainian Youth Association (CYM), she took on leadership roles early and later expanded her involvement across various organizations. She is the Past-President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Alberta Provincial Council (UCC-APC) and a former UCC national Vice-President. In 2022, she became President of the League of Ukrainian Canadian Women, leading branches nationwide.

Olesia serves as Corporate Secretary of the Canada-Ukraine Foundation and advisor to its Ukraine Humanitarian Relief Committee and Chair of the Civil Society Committee. Her past contributions also include serving on the Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts, the SHUMKA board, the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies Advisory Panel, and Alberta’s Advisory Council on Alberta-Ukraine Relations.

Her work fosters unity among Ukrainian organizations and champions the preservation of Ukrainian heritage and Human Rights. Olesia has been honored with numerous awards, including the Cross of Ivan Mazepa, the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Award, and the HETMAN Award. She is married to Yurko Andryjowycz, mother to Stefania and Matay, and proud grandmother to Mila. Notably, she was sanctioned by Russia—an acknowledgment she views as recognition of her unwavering advocacy for Ukraine

The Shevchenko Medal is the highest form of recognition that can be granted by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. It recognizes individuals of Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian descent for their outstanding national contribution towards the development of the Ukrainian Canadian community.
