Spotlighting the Ukrainian Canadian Sacrifice Medal—established by resolution of the XXVII Congress (2022) as a joint initiative of the UCC and the Ukrainian War Veterans Association of Canada to honour Canadian citizens who have been killed or wounded in action while serving with Ukraine’s Armed Forces.Taras Jackiw, Chair of the Ukrainian Canadian Sacrifice Medal Committee, will explain the Medal’s purpose and recent community ceremonies where families of the Fallen were presented the Medal —underscoring our community’s enduring commitment to those who gave everything in defence of Ukraine’s freedom.

Join us for a special luncheon panel featuring Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine, Natalka Cmoc, and Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, Andrii Plakhotniuk. In this high-level conversation, the Ambassadors will share insights on Canada–Ukraine relations, current priorities, and the role of our communities in strengthening ties between the two countries. Delegates will have the opportunity to hear first-hand perspectives on diplomacy, security, and collaboration, followed by an engaging discussion.

Oleksandra Matviichuk is a Ukrainian human rights lawyer and the head of the Center for Civil Liberties in Kyiv. She has led efforts to advance democratic reforms, protect human rights, and document war crimes committed during Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. In 2022, the Center for Civil Liberties was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its work promoting civil society and justice. Matviichuk has received numerous international awards for her advocacy and continues to be a leading global voice for freedom, accountability, and the rule of law.
