Description: 

  1. How do we as a community best identify the needs of our seniors?
  2. What do we need to do to make sure that we are serving those needs well?

Description: 

Experts in the area of not for profit governance will provide a tool kit to support not for profit organizations.

  1. What do not for profits need to know to make sure their governance process is effective?
  2. What is the checklist of best practices for effective governance of not for profits?
Human Rights – an international and Canadian perspective

Description:  

Human Rights organizations will speak about key issues that impact Ukrainian Canadians and how to work together with international organizations to impact Ukrainian and Ukrainian Canadian human rights.

  1. What are effective strategies for public communications on human rights issues?
  2. What are the best approaches to ensure that those suffering from human rights abuses because of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine are not forgotten?
  3. How can community organizations and activists best engage with international and national human rights organizations and coordinate their efforts?
Successes and Challenges in Ukrainian Education in Canada

Description:  

  1. What do changing demographics and the changing needs of our community mean for Ukrainian education in Canada?
  2. What can we do to ensure continued interest of parents in providing their children with Ukrainian educations?
  3. How can local, provincial and national organizations dedicated to Ukrainian education in Canada effectively coordinate amongst each other and in their relations with all levels of government?
  4. How can Canadian best practices be applied to assist Ukraine in developing its education system?
Ukraine - where to from here

Description: 

Presenters from the Ukrainian and Canadian governments will speak about the results of the election and the role Canadians can play in continuing to strengthen reform in Ukraine.

  1. What do the results of the presidential and parliamentary elections mean for the defense of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and the prospects for ending Russia’s war against Ukraine?
  2. What do the results of the presidential and parliamentary elections tell us about contemporary social and political realities in Ukraine?
  3. What should the Canadian government focus on supporting reforms and security in Ukraine? On what should the community focus?
Engaging Volunteers – various generations, various approaches

Description: 

Success stories and best practices in engaging volunteers from millennials onward.

  1. How do we build an appreciation for community service and public service amongst our youth?
  2. What has changed in strategies for engaging new volunteers?

3. What do the new realities of the demographics of our community as presented by Dr. Wolowyna tell us about effective volunteer engagement strategies?

Humanitarian Aid for Ukraine

Description: 

Humanitarian Aid providers from within and outside the Ukrainian community will discuss what is needed in Ukraine and how Canadians can assist

  1. How can we ensure that aid provided by our community reaches the people who need it?
  2. How do we make sure that aid we provide is effective and sustainable?
  3. How can our community’s organizations better coordinate amongst each other on the provision of humanitarian aid?
Maintaining good government relations

Description:  

Practitioners of government relations management and the government will provide information on how to strengthen government relations at the federal and provincial levels.

  1. What makes for an effective government advocacy strategy?
  2. How should national, provincial and local organizations organize and coordinate their relations with governments of all levels?
  3. What are some tips that we can use to ensure that government officials listen and respond to concerns of our community?
Local Activities – National Connections

Description:

Small groups will discuss successes in getting Ukrainian Canadians involved in the community. There will also be an opportunity to discuss how individuals with special interest – be it archives, embroidery or pysanky work together and learn from each other.

  1. What are some effective outreach strategies that can be used to reach and engage people with special interests?
  2. Can we apply some of these lessons to broader involvement in our community’s organizations?

The following topics will be covered:  archives, museums, sports, youth, pysanky, embroidery, festivals, newcomer services, early education programs and activities.

Each roundtable will have its own speaker.

Engaging the Unengaged – Success Stories and Issues in engaging Ukrainian Canadians outside the traditional community

How can we engage Ukrainian Canadians who do not consider themselves part of the Ukrainian mainstream in Canada? Experiences from both within and outside the Ukrainian community will be presented.

  1. What are some successful strategies for engaging Ukrainian Canadians in our local, provincial and national organizations?
  2. What should we be offering in terms of programming to engage more people in our community’s institutions?
What has changed in the Ukrainian Canadian Community in the last 20 years

Description:

A review of the Canadian census data as it pertains to Ukrainian Canadians – What the changes means for us as a community. The impact of the changes in key communities across Canada and how we work with various communities.
1. What do the demographic trends tell us about how our organizations should plan their work?
2. What does the demographic data mean for the use of the Ukrainian language in our community?
